IDESCO is organizing an International Living Library on Tuesday, 28th of April 2015 from 12:00-16:00 at Cafe Libri, Main Library, Seminaarinmäki Campus, University of Jyväskylä.
What is a Living Library?
A living library is an event where students can get the chance to read "live books" about various countries by engaging in actual conversations with people originating from those countries.
This event is perfect for those who are interested to present their home country to others and for those who would like to get to know more about different countries
How does it work?
INSTRUCTIONS:
To be our READER:
To be a reader, the only thing you need is the curiosity!
Follow these simple steps:
1. Select a country on display at the international library front desk that you want to learn more about
2. The librarian will introduce you to your “living” book
3. Agree with your “living” book on the topic you want to discuss
4. Discuss the topic and ask the questions you always wanted to ask, you will have about 15-20 minutes time to “read” your book
5. Enjoy and have fun :-)
However, as a reader, remember always to:
• Keep an open-minded attitude towards your “book”
• Be open to different opinions and bring down barriers
• Show mutual acceptance, respect and understanding to your “book”
To be a "LIVING" BOOK:
It’s fun and exciting to be a living book and this gives you a great opportunity to present your home country to others!
Being a “living” book means that people at the international library can “borrow” you and ask you questions about your home country or your cultural background.
To become a “living” book please send an e-mail to victoria.l.murphy@student.jyu.fi where you state your name, the country you representing and how long you can participate in the living library
Note: The event runs from 12pm to 4pm however, if you cannot be there all the time, it's okay, just let us know when you are available
Deadline for registration: 24.4.2015
You don’t need to prepare anything! However, if you like you can bring something with you along that represents your home country or things that might stimulate the discussion.
